What is periodontal disease?

A quiet disease with little or no symptoms at the onset, periodontal disease starts as gingivitis — but when it goes untreated, conditions worsen and noticeable symptoms appear. They include:

  • Bad Breath
  • Gum Recession
  • Gum Sensitivity to Acidic Foods
  • Abscesses
  • Tooth Pain
  • Tooth Loss

Periodontal disease is a chronic condition that needs immediate attention. Treatment to control the condition includes a series of periodontal cleanings, root planing and scaling, laser therapy and local antibiotics. Surgery may be necessary, but only in severe cases.
